Yesterday it was the confirmed that the Xbox 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII would ship on three discs. This is becoming a rather hot topic over the internet and Sony fans are calling it a win for Blu Ray.
Let’s take a step back here. Many years ago, right here on the PS2, games would span multiple disc releases. It wasn’t considered a problem then, so why is it now? In fact it was seen as completely normal. Sure Microsoft could have waited another year to release the 360 with built in Blu ray capability, but we all know that was the reason for Sony’s slow start (that has lasted 3 years) as well as its high price. So I am totally happy MS stuck with the DVD-9 format.
Further, with today’s consoles featuring 60GB to 250GB hard discs and optional installs to the hard drive, it seems a frivolous point to contend the number of discs given the game resides on your console. Further, titles such as Blue Dragon were shipped on three discs and titles such as Forza Motorsport 3 also spanned two discs. I am sure there are many other examples of multiple disc games, but the point remains, this is not new news. We do need to stop and think for a moment that the Xbox 360 has been out now for 4 years and today’s games are becoming bigger and bigger as each year goes by.
So to all the Sony fan boys out there, you should not judge the 360 quite so quickly, given it was the Playstation that pioneered the multiple discs releases.

Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX for starters.
Metal Gear Solid.
Legend of Dragoon.
Really, back in those days if you were going to buy an RPG and it all fit onto one disc you usually figured it was going to be crap. So, this is not an issue at all. People cry over the stupidest things, haha.
